House Rules
We welcome your pet into our home. Gus’s Cabin is a communal environment where we treat your pet like our own. Your dog will make some new friends and your pet should be able to get along with others. While we expect there may be some scuffles over toys and affection, we do expect dogs to be able to curb any aggression when we need to intervene. We also expect dogs to understand basic commands (their name, sit, etc.), and that their vaccinations are up-to-date to ensure the health of our other guests.
Drop Off and Pick Up
Pickup and drop off times are 7:00am – 9:00am and 4:00pm – 6:00pm. Half day fees may apply depending on when you drop off your loved ones. If you need something outside of these hours, contact us.
We can also pick up or drop off your pet within 10 miles for an additional $25. Just coordinate with us vis email or text.
What are your rates?
Our rates are $65 per night, paying credit card (Venmo or Paypal), or $60 paying with cash.
This rate includes all the love they could ask for, at least one walk/hike per day, endless playtime, and one photo or video update per day.
We want to keep things simple so you can enjoy your time away without being nickeled and dimed. No add-on fees for anything else, just our flat overnight rate.
Do you do day stays?
No, we only accommodate overnights stays. Focusing on overnights means less ins and outs during your pets stay so they can settle into their home away from home.
Cancellation Fee
We understand plans need to change so we want to be as understanding and flexible as possible. As a boutique home stay, we have a limited amount of spaces for dogs and have held one for your dog. For changes / cancellations less than one week prior, we charge a $100 cancellation fee. Thank you for understanding and letting us know as soon as you possibly can.
What should I bring when I drop off my dog?
Bring a harness, any food you anticipate they will want, and other comfort items. We have plenty of house leashes, beds, toys ( non-stuffed ones ) and dog bowls.
What can I expect for exercise?
Daily walks, usually twice a day, with lots of frisbee and ball chasing (in our fully fenced play yard) if your pup is into that. We have all sorts of toys and find the dogs usually exhausted and napping on our sofas after so much play.
How often will my dog be let out?
Usually about every 2-3 hours, but please let us know if your pup requires a different schedule.
How many dogs will be at Gus’s cabin?
We will always balance out the dogs the best we can and put the dogs’ needs first. We aim to keep it around 6-8 guests max.
Are there other animals besides dogs at Gus’s Cabin?
Gus’s Cabin is a dog only establishment. No kids, no cats, no ferrets, and no iguanas. We do get get some racoon, squirrel, and frog visitors from time to time.
Can I come to check out Gus’s cabin before I book my stay?
Yes, absolutely! We’d love to meet you and your dog to make sure it’s a good fit. Please text or email to schedule a meet-and-greet. We offer these for free on Sunday afternoons and Tuesday evenings.
My dog is shy/anxious – will they fit in there?
Gus is really great at providing a calm welcoming environment and meeting your dog where they are. Dogs speak the best dog language! But if your dog has never been around other dogs or isn’t socialized this might not be the best fit for them. Let’s talk!
Where do the dogs sleep?
Many chose to sleep in our bed, steal Gus’s bed, or their own dog bed if you bring it. They are free to find their own comfortable spot in our home. They are part of our family!
How often will you update me on my dog?
You’ll receive updates and photos at least once a day, and probably more than that when they are doing something cute!
Will dogs be crated?
Only if you ask me to!
How often will dogs be left alone?
Usually Gordon and Megan are home, but on the occasional out-of-home call your dog will be alone no more than a couple hours.
Do you require flea preventatives?
Knock on wood, we’ve never had a flea problem. Our dog, as most NW dogs are, are on flea preventatives. We highly recommend your pooch is on one!
Are you insured?
Yes, your dog is insured $25,000 in care through Pet Sitters International during their stay.
What if there is an emergency?
We have an emergency vet nearby – Poulsbo Animal Emergency and Trauma center. They have amazing care. Gordon and Megan are also Dog CPR and First Aid Certified through Red Cross.
